FAQ - Frequently asked questions | Wikatech

What is the best way to clean the FlexFire, FlexHold or LightFire?

You can use anything except steel wool for cleaning (steel wool can leave iron particles in the stainless steel that later look like rust film). Out in nature, sand is an excellent cleaning agent. At home you can use a normal kitchen sponge or simply put the parts to be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Are there general care instructions?

Please read the associated manual before using your new products. If you treat them carefully, they will be by your side for a long time. You should also observe the following tips and hints: Always let the FlexFire or LightFire stove cool down slowly and by itself. Rapid cooling of the still hot parts, e.g. in cold water or with snow, can lead to warpage or damage.

What is the difference between normal stainless steel, as mostly used by other manufacturers, and the special stainless steel-titanium alloy from WiKa Technology?

The stainless steel-titanium alloy has a significantly higher thermal stability than normal stainless steel. This makes it possible to permanently expose our products made of this alloy to high temperatures. In addition, a very high stability is retained, which decreases with pure titanium and increasing temperatures.

Among other things, this makes it possible to offer an absolutely robust product with a wall thickness of 0.8 mm, which equates to a weight saving of 20% compared to 1.0 mm.

Our alloy is clearly recognizable by the structure in the material and can therefore be identified as a quality feature. In addition, you can look forward to great tarnishing (the discoloration of the material caused by temperature is called tarnishing - this process is completely normal with metals).

Can the FlexFire or the LightFire warp?

Warpage is a physical effect that occurs when metal is heated unevenly - therefore a certain amount of warpage can never be completely prevented. However, we have managed to reduce this to a minimum with our stainless steel-titanium alloy and the construction. The functionality is therefore never impaired (if of course used properly).

Is there a risk of overheating and what happens then?

We have proven in countless tests that the FlexFire in particular is extremely robust and can also be operated as a campfire for a longer period of time! You can pack it as full of fuel as you like. That doesn't bother him at all, in contrast to other manufacturers, this was a clear development goal for us, because where is the fun if this is excluded?

How do I optimally heat the FlexFire or LightFire with wood?

The optimal lighting depends to a large extent on the variant installed. The chimney effect is greatest with the FlexFire 6 and the easier it is to start and maintain a fire. But even with the FlexFire 4 this is very easy because it has a small combustion chamber, but the same height as the FlexFire 6. You need a little more experience for the LightFire, because it simply requires smaller wood due to its size.

Can I use coated pots on my FlexFire?

Due to the very high temperatures, the coating can be damaged, which can release toxic substances. Therefore, only use cookware made of stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron or wrought iron or explicitly suitable for open fire.

What is the chimney effect and why is it important?

The chimney effect is essentially a flow of air triggered by heated air flowing upwards and drawing in fresh air from below. The chimney effect is the basic principle of the FlexFire and the LightFire and ensures that they work hot and efficiently. The chimney effect is especially important if you run your stove with wood, coal or Esbit. When using a spirit or gas burner in the FlexFire or LightFire, however, the effect is not so relevant.

The larger the built-up variant, the stronger the chimney effect. The FlexFire 6 make perfect use of the chimney effect, which means that temperatures of up to 1,100 degrees can be reached.

So that the chimney effect can fully develop, please always make sure that the air can circulate freely (openings in the burner plate should be free, so do not use too much wood).

Can I use my FlexFire or LightFire with a Trangia alcohol or gas burner?

The FlexFire and the LightFire are perfectly matched to the Trangia spirit burner. Just look in the instructions in which assembly variant this is possible. The Trangia mounting plate is required for use with the gas burner, you can find it in our shop.

Are the FlexFire or LightFire also compatible for use with fuel tablets (e.g. Esbit)?

Yes, they are both. Either use the burner plate or use the Trangia gel burner in conjunction with the appropriate holding plate. This has the advantage that the fuel can be used more effectively. You can also use fuel gel or paste with it.

Is it normal to have scratches on parts of the FlexFire or LightFire?

Scratches from production and transport in the bag can sometimes be visible on the surface of the individual parts. This cannot be completely avoided. The slight scratches are no longer visible after the first lighting anyway.

How are our products made?

The products are designed and manufactured according to the highest production standards. We avoid plastics as much as possible for our products and our packaging. Instead, we use natural materials such as metal, cotton and cardboard for the packaging. We only use the highest quality materials and make sure that all of our products are manufactured under fair working conditions and without any health or environmental risks.
